DAM: Born Here

In Hebrew with English subtitles, this music video features the iconic Palestinian hip-hop group DAM rapping about the discrimination they experience in their hometown of Lod, an Israeli city with a sizeable Arab population. Made up of three Arab-Israelis who identify as Palestinians, DAM is an acronym for “Da Arabian MCs” but also the Hebrew word for blood and the Arabic word for eternity. Although the group primarily raps in Arabic, they made a Hebrew version of this song in order to get their message out to the Israeli majority who do not speak Arabic. This song reveals the discriminatory policies of the Israeli government toward its Arab citizens, including inequality in social services, distribution of resources, infrastructure, and housing, as well as violence and racism.
