The Dead Sea is drying up, but drilling shows that this might not be the first time. An article from the Earth Institute at Columbia University describes the massive drilling project undertaken by an international team of scientists trying to uncover the history of the region. “In one early discovery, they have found that the sea has come and gone in the past—a revelation with powerful implications for the current Mideast.” These new findings might enable scientists to find a way to slow or stop the drying process. In a water-starved country, this is hopeful news.
