This post presents a song with guiding questions from the Masorti Movement in Israel that can be used to teach about the ideological changes that have taken place in Israel since its founding. The video features Shirat Machar (Song of Tomorrow), the musical ensemble of the Noam youth group of the Masorti Movement singing their version of a popular poem written by Amir Gilboa in 1953, which was put to music by Shlomo Artzi in the 1970s, revived as a protest song during the 2011 social justice protests, and covered by Groovatron, who mixed in recitations from Israel’s Declaration of Independence. These resources were put together by Rav Siach, a program designed to connect Conservative congregations in the Diaspora and Masorti communities in Israel.
