As the Nazis rose to power and began excluding Jews from social and economic opportunities, Jews found the need to establish their own social, economic and educational organizations. Roman Vishniac, an esteemed Jewish photography, was commissioned to photograph the work of these Jewish organizations. This assemblage of Vishniac’s photography shows Jewish youths in the Zionist agricultural training camp Werkdrop Niewesluis, as they prepare for life in Palestine, while this collection documents the work of the German Jewish relief organizations in Berlin.
