This post provides resources about the fateful vote of November 29, 1947, when the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of the Partition Plan, a three-minute long vote which changed the course of Jewish history. The Partition Plan recommended the end of the British Mandate and a partition of the land into two independent states – one Jewish and one Arab – with a special international regime for Jerusalem. This post presents a 10 minute long video about story of the vote from the “Eyewitness 1948” short film series produced by Toldot Yisrael, as well as an excerpt from Israeli author Amos Oz’s “A Tale of Love and Darkness,” which describes the emotions of this moment as experienced by the author when he was a child in Jerusalem.
