IDF Commander of West Bank Recalls the First Intifada

Produced by Al Jazeera, a state-funded Qatari news network, this video (02:18) includes an interview with the IDF Commander of the West Bank during the First Intifada. He explains why Israel called up thousands of reserve soldiers in response to the Palestinian uprising in order to ensure the safety of Israeli civilians. He also discusses the controversial order of then Minister of Defense Yitzhak Rabin to “break to bones of Palestinians,” claiming that the orders went directly from television to soldiers, instead of going through the proper chain of command to ensure they would be understood and applied appropriately.
